A coloured ground in acrylic paint was applied to the board. Once the ground had dried the face was lightly drawn in pencil. Oil paint, Titanium white, Burnt umber and Prussian blue was used to create the monochrome portrait.
Day two
The same process was followed as before, however a full colour palette of: Titanium white, Yellow Ochre, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium yellow, Cadmium red, Alizarin crimson, Prussian blue, Burnt umber, and Magenta was used. Before applying the paint, six middle tones were prepared. Darks and highlights were left to the final stages of the painting.
